An Opportunity You Just Can’t Miss
The Tigers are in spring training. We’ve moved our clocks forward - and it’s that time of year to register for the MSBO Annual Conference! If you register by April 3, 2009 you are automatically eligible for the Early Bird Prizes.
Detroit is an incredible city with world-class museums, championship sports teams and interesting architecture. It is also the host city for the MSBO 71st Annual Conference & Exhibit Show. We promise to show you a Detroit that will exceed your expectations.
We are offering an Insider’s Tour of downtown Detroit on Monday, April 27 and again on Tuesday, April 28. It will also be part of the Spouse’s Program, which will be held Thursday, April 30. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to see a Detroit you have never seen before. This tour will cover landmarks, new development and the history about this great city. You’ll also get the inside scoop from a guide that lives, works, and plays in Detroit. You can find more information on the MSBO Annual Conference web page.
We have more sessions than any time in the history of MSBO. We’ve put together a great set of topics aimed at all levels of experience from those just starting out, to veterans and to all areas of school business from finance directors to transportation directors. As always, the MSBO Annual Conference offers you the chance to learn, sharpen your existing skills, and find out how other districts across the state and nationally, are coping with the budget crunch.
In these tough economic times, professional development is vital. At the MSBO Annual Conference you'll get the latest information on the economy, what's happening in Lansing, best practices from other districts, legal issues, and products and services that can make your district more efficient. One or two good ideas can save your district far more than the cost of attending. Hearing the latest from legal and regulatory experts can save you and your district time and money in the future. The MSBO Annual Conference is a wise use of your district's resources and provides something for all school business professionals in the areas of accounting, finance, payroll, pupil accounting, facilities, transportation, technology, and food services.
We would also appreciate your help in asking the vendors you work with to consider exhibiting at the conference this year, especially those that are from the Detroit Metro area. It is a great opportunity for vendors to save travel costs and how else can they meet with a thousand business officials in a two-day period!
Scholarships
If you feel you can’t attend because of your school’s difficult financial situation, please reconsider: there are many valuable sessions with many great ideas that will more than pay for your attendance. We are still making registration scholarships available if your district has not already received a registration scholarship this year. We believe this is the best professional development value available to Michigan School Business Officials and we want to make attending as easy as possible.
If you have questions about scholarships or how to register online, please contact Marte Cadwell 517.327.5920.
Early Bird Registrations
If you registered as part of the Early Bird option, you still need to complete your registration by telling us which clinics you plan on attending. If you have questions about Early Bird registration or how to register online, please contact Marte Cadwell 517.327.5920.
Get Your Tiger Tickets!
MSBO has a block of seats for the Tigers vs. Yankees game on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 7:05 pm. Tickets are $27 each, which includes transportation to and from the game and rain out insurance. You can purchase tickets in this block by registering and paying online at the MSBO web site and tickets purchased at one time will be seated together. Tickets are available on a first-come-first-served basis and MSBO will mail tickets to the purchaser prior to the Conference. No need to worry about a rain out – your ticket price includes insurance and we will refund $20 per ticket if the game is rained out.
Going Green
MSBO continues its drive to “Go Green” in our office and with our conferences. All clinic handouts will be posted on the MSBO web site before the Conference. In the case where a speaker does not give us permission, they will provide handouts at their session. If you want a copy to take with you to a session, simply print it in advance. Conference attendees supported our efforts last year in going green and said they liked having clinic handouts posted on the MSBO web.
On behalf of the MSBO Board of Directors and the MSBO staff, I look forward to seeing you in Detroit!
