Count Down to the MSBO Annual Conference!

Every time I turn around, there seems to be more bad news. It affects the auto industry, state and local governments and of course, schools. During these times, we need to look to each other for support and ideas. And there is no better chance to recharge your batteries and meet with others facing the same challenges then at the MSBO Annual Conference. It is that one time a year that we can come together as a group and help each other get through these tough budget times we are facing this year.

The good news is that we already have more than 900 members registered and over 350 vendors exhibiting. These registration numbers indicate that even in these tough financial times, you are not alone in attending professional development and you need to take advantage of this type of opportunity to make sure you are doing all you can to prepare your district for the upcoming difficult budgets and labor negotiations. And if you thought you would just skip the conference this year, you may want to reconsider. You don’t want to miss out on the ideas and information that will be shared during the many sessions and even in those casual conversations at lunch, breaks and during relaxation time in the evenings. Just remember, you need to recharge with those who understand what you are going through.

In many districts, you may be the Chief Business Official, but you are also the only business official and many times the only professional in your district that is looking out for your area of expertise. No one can be as understanding and as helpful to you and your district’s situation than your peers! It is difficult to be a leader if you don’t show leadership. It’s easier to show leadership if you know others are doing the same in their districts.

As usual, this is our normal time for our final push to get those of you who are planning to attend the MSBO Annual Conference, April 28 through April 30, in Detroit to complete your registration! The Conference offers many valuable sessions with great ideas that will more than pay for your attendance, and MSBO may be able to meet you half way (financially). Be sure to apply for a scholarship if you want to attend and your district has not already received a registration scholarship this year. The scholarship covers your registration for the Conference and includes two breakfasts and two lunches as part of the program. The scholarship does not cover certification classes or the Pre-Conferences.

We have more topics and more clinic sessions than any time in the history of MSBO. Not only do we have more sessions than ever, but we have put together new programs aimed at all levels of experience from those just starting out to veterans. Check out the conference brochure.

It is important that you register now so we can get an accurate count for meals and our clinic sessions. Register online or fill out a registration form (part of our conference brochure) and fax it to (517) 327-0768. If you have questions about scholarships or how to register online, please contact Marte Cadwell.
